Kavion Robinson is an illustrator and painter recognized most notably for his illustrative depictions of historical figures and scenes. Kavion received his BFA from the University of The Arts where he majored in traditional illustration. He currently works mainly as a freelance illustrator. Kavion designed several book covers and illustrated his first children book Irie the Caterpillar in 2013. His artistic style can be described as realistic symbolism; somewhat surreal in its symbolism. Kavion has received several awards for his paintings most notable for excellence in painting from the National Gallery of Jamaica in 2012 for his historical illustrations of several of Jamaica’s national heroes. From growing up in Jamaica history and struggle became the main subject matters of his artwork. Kavion have dedicated his career as an artist to depicting life’s beauties and struggles in an enlightening and educational manner. He described life growing up as “a beautiful struggle and my art depicts the beauty in the struggle”. His goal as an artist is to inspire positive change through art, especially in the country of his birth Jamaica and Africa.
